A signature work from the Arkansas Memory Archive by JRoby.

Based on childhood memories from Pine Bluff, Arkansas, this piece captures an afternoon football game played in the yard of my great-uncle, a place known throughout the family as "Roby Field."

There were no stadium lights, scoreboards, or organized leagues. The field was a patch of Arkansas earth bordered by persimmon trees, neighborhood houses, and generations of family memory. It was where boys became competitors, storytellers, and lifelong friends.

The work preserves a disappearing piece of Black Southern life: neighborhood football played on family land, watched by cousins, friends, and future memories waiting to happen.
